How the lip shape analyzer works

Detection uses Google's MediaPipe Face Landmarker, running on your device.

  1. 1

    Upload a selfie

Use a clear, front-facing photo or your camera. Face the lens straight on in even light.

  2. 2

    Landmarks are measured

Lip height, mouth width, cupid's bow depth and corner position are measured.

Types of lip shapes

Nine lip shapes the analyzer can identify.

  • Full

Both lips are plump and balanced, with plenty of visible color.

  • Thin

Both lips are slim relative to mouth width, with a neat, defined line.

  • Heart-shaped

A defined cupid's bow over a fuller lower lip — the classic heart-shaped lip.

  • Bow-shaped (Cupid's bow)

A pronounced cupid's bow with sharply peaked upper lip.

  • Wide

The mouth extends wider than average relative to the nose and eyes.

  • Round

Lips that are tall relative to their width, with a soft, rounded outline.

  • Top-heavy

The upper lip is as full as or fuller than the lower lip.

  • Bottom-heavy

The lower lip is noticeably fuller than the upper lip.

  • Downturned

The corners of the mouth sit slightly lower than the center line.

Lip liner tricks by lip shape

Lip liner is the most useful tool for any lip shape. Choose a shade close to your natural lip color, not your lipstick, so the edge stays invisible as the color wears off. Line just on the natural edge to add definition, or a hair outside at the center to add volume.

Gloss and light shades make lips look fuller; matte and deep shades make them look smaller and more defined. You can combine both: a deeper shade at the corners and a lighter, glossier one in the center creates a pout without overlining.

For uneven lips, line the fuller lip on its natural edge and the thinner lip slightly outside its edge, then blend. Check from arm's length — small asymmetries disappear at conversation distance.

Lip shape analyzer FAQ

Is it really free?

Yes. No sign-up, no watermark and no usage limits. The analysis runs in your browser.

Is my photo uploaded?

No. Detection runs locally with Google's MediaPipe model, so your photo never leaves your device.

What photo works best?

A straight-on photo at eye level, from arm's length or further, in soft daylight. Pull hair off your face, remove glasses and keep a neutral expression. Keep your lips relaxed and closed.

What is the ideal lip ratio?

A lower lip about 1.6 times the height of the upper lip is often cited as ideal. It's an aesthetic convention, not a rule.

Should I smile in the photo?

No. Keep lips relaxed and closed; smiling stretches them and changes the ratio.

Can lip shape change?

Lips can thin slightly with age as collagen decreases, which is why many people move to liner and lighter shades over time.
