How the canthal tilt calculator works

Detection uses Google's MediaPipe Face Landmarker, running on your device.

  1. 1

    Upload a selfie

Use a clear, front-facing photo or your camera. Face the lens straight on in even light.

  2. 2

    Landmarks are measured

The inner (medial) and outer (lateral) canthus of each eye are located and the angle is measured.

Positive vs negative canthal tilt

Canthal tilt is the angle of the line from the inner eye corner to the outer one. When the outer corner sits higher it's positive — the 'fox eye' or 'hunter eye' look. When it sits lower it's negative, sometimes called 'hound eyes'.

Most people fall between 0° and +6°. The calculator measures against the line between your eyes, so a tilted head doesn't skew the result.

Reading your canthal tilt result

The calculator measures each eye separately because most people have slightly different tilts on each side. It also measures against the line joining your two eyes, so a tilted head doesn't make your tilt look more positive or negative than it is.

Expression matters. Smiling lifts the lower lids and outer corners, which increases tilt, while a tired or relaxed face can lower it. For a baseline, keep a neutral face and look straight into the lens at eye level.

If you want a more lifted look, makeup is the easiest tool: a winged liner angled up from the outer corner, lifted brow tails and shadow blended up and out all make tilt appear more positive without changing anything permanent.

Canthal tilt calculator FAQ

Is it really free?

Yes. No sign-up, no watermark and no usage limits. The analysis runs in your browser.

Is my photo uploaded?

No. Detection runs locally with Google's MediaPipe model, so your photo never leaves your device.

What photo works best?

A straight-on photo at eye level, from arm's length or further, in soft daylight. Pull hair off your face, remove glasses and keep a neutral expression.

Can makeup change my canthal tilt?

Not the bone structure, but winged liner and lifting the brow tail make the tilt look more positive.

What is a normal canthal tilt?

Most adults measure between 0° and about +6°. Small negative values are also common.

Does canthal tilt change with age?

Yes. The outer corners tend to drop slightly as skin and supporting tissue relax.
