Perceived age comes from a handful of visual cues: skin texture, shadows under the eyes, the fullness of the cheeks and lips, hair color and the sharpness of the jawline. The model learned these cues from thousands of labeled faces, so it reacts to the same things people notice.

Light is the biggest swing factor. Soft daylight from the front fills in fine lines and makes skin look even, which usually reads younger. Overhead or side light deepens every shadow and can add years. Try the same face in two lighting setups and you'll often see a difference of five or more.

Styling matters too. Glasses, beards, heavy makeup and gray hair push estimates up; a relaxed expression, a fresh haircut and good sleep pull them down. Use the result as a fun mirror, not a verdict — the model has a typical error of several years in either direction.

Because everything runs on your device, the first visit downloads the 14 MB age model once. After that it's cached, so later guesses take under a second and work even on a slow connection.
