How the jawline shape detector works

Detection uses Google's MediaPipe Face Landmarker, running on your device.

  1. 1

    Upload a selfie

Use a clear, front-facing photo or your camera. Face the lens straight on in even light.

  2. 2

    Landmarks are measured

Jaw width, chin width and the angle at each jaw corner are measured from the face outline.

Types of jawline shapes

Six jawline shapes, from sharp and square to soft and tapered.

  • Square

A wide jaw with defined corners, close in width to the cheekbones.

  • Round

A soft jaw with gently curved corners and a rounded chin.

  • V-shaped

The jaw tapers sharply from the cheekbones to a narrow, pointed chin.

  • Oval

A softly tapered jaw narrower than the cheekbones with a gently rounded chin.

  • Rectangular

An angular jaw on a longer face, with straight sides from cheek to jaw.

  • Triangular

The jaw is wider than the forehead and cheekbones — a strong, grounded jawline.

Styling tips by jawline shape

Your jawline sets where a haircut should end. Cuts that stop exactly at the widest point of the jaw draw the eye there, which is great for a defined jaw and less flattering when you want to soften it. Ending a bob just below or above the jaw changes the effect.

For beards, the rule is to add what the jaw lacks. A round jaw gains structure from a squared beard with a little length at the chin. A square jaw looks softer with rounded edges. A V-shaped jaw looks fuller with denser sides.

Jaw definition also changes with posture and weight. Photograph yourself with your chin slightly forward and your head level, not tipped down, to see your natural outline rather than a shadowed one.

Jawline shape detector FAQ

Is it really free?

Yes. No sign-up, no watermark and no usage limits. The analysis runs in your browser.

Is my photo uploaded?

No. Detection runs locally with Google's MediaPipe model, so your photo never leaves your device.

What photo works best?

A straight-on photo at eye level, from arm's length or further, in soft daylight. Pull hair off your face, remove glasses and keep a neutral expression.

Is the jaw angle my real gonial angle?

No. A front photo shows a projected angle, not the true bone angle a side X-ray measures. It's useful for comparing jaw definition, not for clinical use.

Can I change my jawline shape?

Bone structure doesn't change, but posture, body composition, hairstyles and beards all change how sharp your jaw looks.

What's the difference between jawline and face shape?

Face shape describes the whole outline; jawline shape focuses on the lower third — jaw corners and chin.
