The seven face shapes at a glance

All face shape tools on this site use the same seven shapes, so results are comparable.

  • Oval

Longer than wide, gently tapering to a rounded jaw. Suits most haircuts and frames.

  • Round

Length and width close, soft jaw. Height and angles add length.

  • Square

Forehead, cheekbones and jaw similar, angular jaw. Soft curves balance it.

  • Oblong

Clearly longer than wide with straight sides. Width and fringes balance it.

  • Heart

Forehead as wide as the cheekbones, narrow chin. Volume at the jaw balances it.

  • Diamond

Cheekbones widest, narrow forehead and jaw. Fringes and fullness at the jaw help.

  • Triangle

Jaw wider than the forehead. Volume at the crown balances it.

One photo for every face tool

Take this photo once and reuse it across all the face shape and face analysis tools.

  • Camera at eye level, at arm's length or further.
  • Face a window for soft, even daylight.
  • Pull hair back from the forehead, temples and jaw.
  • Remove glasses and keep a relaxed, closed-mouth expression.
  • Look straight at the lens without tilting your head.
  • Turn off beauty filters and portrait modes.

How the face analysis tools work

Every photo-based face tool here starts the same way: Google's MediaPipe Face Landmarker places 478 points on your face in your browser. Each tool then measures different distances and angles between those points, which is why one photo can power nine of them and why their results agree with each other.

Because the model runs on your device, nothing is uploaded and there's no account. The first tool you open downloads the model, which takes a few seconds; after that the others start almost instantly.

Face analysis glossary

  • Facial landmarks

Points placed on the face outline, brows, eyes, nose and lips. Our tools use 478 from Google's MediaPipe.

  • Face length ÷ width

The main ratio behind face shape. Under about 1.3 reads short and wide; 1.6 or more reads long.

  • Facial thirds

Hairline to brows, brows to the base of the nose, nose to chin. A classical reference for balance.

  • Midline

The vertical center line that the symmetry test compares both sides against.

  • Cupid's bow

The double curve at the center of the upper lip, used to classify lip shape.

  • Brow arch

The highest point of the eyebrow; its height and position define brow shape.

When the face shape tools disagree

Faces are a continuous range, and face shapes are bands drawn across it. If the detector says oval and the calculator says oblong, your face is close to the line between them. That's useful information: advice that suits both shapes, such as curtain bangs or medium-depth frames, is likely to suit you best.

Most disagreements come from the photo rather than the face. A selfie taken too close widens the cheeks; a tilted head shortens the face. Retake the photo at arm's length, at eye level, and compare again before deciding.

Every face shape and face analysis tool, in detail

  • Face shape detector

Input: selfie · Output: one of 7 shapes

Measures face length against cheekbone width and how the forehead and jaw compare, then suggests haircuts and glasses frames for your shape. The quickest way to an answer.

  • Face shape calculator

Input: 4 measurements + chin shape · Output: one of 7 shapes

The same rules as the detector, from a tape measure instead of a photo. Shows the three ratios behind the result so you can see how close you are to the next shape.

  • Hairstyles for face shape

Input: selfie · Output: shape + recommended cuts

Detects your shape and lists cuts that balance it, with a one-click path to preview each cut on your own photo.

  • Face analyzer

Input: selfie · Output: full report

Face shape, eye, brow, nose and lip shapes, symmetry, proportions and skin tone in one scan, each card linking to the tool that goes deeper.

  • Eyebrow shape detector

Input: selfie · Output: brow type for each side

Finds the start, arch and tail of each brow and classifies the shape, with grooming tips for your face shape.

  • Lip shape analyzer

Input: selfie · Output: lip type + makeup tips

Measures fullness, upper-to-lower balance, Cupid's bow and corners, then suggests liner and lipstick technique.

  • Face symmetry test

Input: selfie · Output: symmetry score + breakdown

Compares matched points on each side of the midline for eyes, brows, nose, mouth and jaw, and explains what the score bands mean.

  • Facial proportions calculator

Input: selfie · Output: thirds, midface, eye spacing

Shows where the length of your face sits and how features are spaced, with styling ideas to balance each area.

  • Attractiveness test

Input: selfie · Output: harmony score

Combines six measurable features into a harmony score, with the scale and every component explained on the page.

  • How old do I look

Input: selfie · Output: apparent age

An age guesser that runs entirely in your browser using the FairFace model. Best used for fun, and to find your most flattering light.

Common face analysis mistakes

  • Taking the selfie too close: wide-angle lenses widen the cheeks and enlarge the nose.
  • Tilting the chin: up or down changes the facial thirds and face length.
  • Leaving hair over the forehead or jaw: the outline can't be measured.
  • Smiling widely: cheeks lift and lips stretch, changing several readings.
  • Using a filtered photo: beauty modes move the very landmarks being measured.
  • Treating a borderline result as wrong: it usually means two shapes' advice applies.

What to do after you know your face shape

Use your face shape as a filter, not a rule. It narrows dozens of haircuts and frames to a shortlist; your hair texture, lifestyle and taste decide the rest.

The fastest way to decide is to see the shortlist on your own face. Preview two or three cuts with the AI hairstyle changer, try a few frame shapes with the glasses try on, and compare the results side by side before you book or buy.

Face shape tools FAQ

What is the most accurate way to find my face shape?

Use the face shape detector with a clear, straight-on photo, then confirm a borderline result with the face shape calculator and four tape measurements.

Can these face tools tell me which haircut or glasses suit me?

Yes. The face shape detector and the hairstyles for face shape tool suggest cuts and frames, and you can preview them on your photo with the AI try-on tools.

Do I need a separate photo for each face tool?

No. One straight-on selfie works for all of them.

Which face shape tool is most accurate?

They share the same model and rules, so on a good photo they agree. The calculator is the best cross-check because it avoids camera distortion entirely.

Can I use the face shape tools without a photo?

Yes. The face shape calculator works from four tape measurements: forehead, cheekbones, jaw and face length.

Are face shape tools useful for men?

Yes. Face shape guides haircuts, beards and glasses for men just as it guides cuts and frames for women.

How long do the face tools take?

A few seconds. The first tool you open downloads the face model once; after that each analysis is almost instant.

Can I use the face tools with my camera instead of a photo?

Yes. The photo tools accept an upload or your camera, as long as you face the lens straight on in even light.

Do face shape tools work with glasses on?

Take glasses off for the most accurate result. Frames hide the brow line and can change how the detector reads the width of your face.

Can my face shape result help with makeup?

Yes. Contour, blush placement and brow shape are all chosen by face shape, and the blush shade finder shows placement for yours.

What is the most common face shape?

Oval is usually described as the most common, but tools draw the borders between shapes differently, so no single figure is reliable.

Can I find my face shape from a side photo?

No. Face shape needs a straight-on view so both sides of the outline are visible at the same distance.
